Attitude ft. Timbaland & Twista - "STUNT"

It's been a pretty busy year for Timbo. He produced both Justin Timberlake's albums "The 20/20 Experience", reforming the Timb Team after a seven years hiatus, and he also highly participated to Jay Z's last effort, "Magna Carta Holy Grail". With such a schedule, we could wonder when is he going to drop his own next album, but obviously it won't be in 2K13 as expected by his fans. Listen closely, you can hear 'em mourning and pouring tears over Nelly Furtado's posters...

Now that he's got a little more time to work on his new solo project, be sure you're gonna hear some new material in the next months. And actually, a new song dropped yesterday (coincidence at its best), performed by long-time protégé Attitude, Twista and Timbo himself. Of course, the production was handled by Mister "Big Pimpin", "Ayo Technology" and "Deliverance" (to mention a few), and the result is a good-for-your-ears instrumental you'll whistle the whole day (or week, or month, or..) ! Twista's supersonic flow fits perfectly with the beat, kicks and claps, and balance pretty well with Attitude and Timbo's minor verses. Of course, bars like "this shit is easy, I need a challenge" or "taking high club, yeah I want it all" probably won't hit the lyrics Hall of Fame, but you rarely expect that from Timbo's songs, let's be honest. So all we have to do now is to wait for his new project, "Textbook Timbo" (yeah it won't be "Shock Value 3", people) and its tracklist and featurings that will surely be huge and eclectic, as usual. You can already check out his new joint "What u know about me" feat Drake, while stars are illuminating your fan's eyes !

Hozier - "TAKE ME TO CHURCH"

Irish singer Andrew Hozier-Byrne brought us a new free EP recently, with the title-track still ringing in our ears for a bunch of weeks. Such a voice'll give you goosebumps, and if not, well, the music will.

Moko - "HONEY COCAINE"

Suit up ! You have a party tonight, you put on your best outfits cuz you wanna look good and desirable. Oh, and there's this Moko song playing in the background of your room, so you know you won't fail. #bosslife

David Dallas - "RUNNIN'"

There was a time when a new FIFA game's soundtrack's always supported by a Moby song. But we're in 2014 (well, soon) and this time it was up to David Dallas to take the spot with some hip-hop stuff. Score, people !

Eminem ft. Kendrick Lamar - "LOVE GAME"

Eminem's long awaited new album is dropping next tuesday worldwide. If the whole package surely makes fans going crazy in the queue of iTunes, one of the most expected song on it is clearly the duet with Kendrick Lamar. The union of the two hip-hop MVPs generated a lot of speculations among the social networks : Is Kendrick gonna upstage the self-proclaimed "rap God" ? Is Eminem going to murder is Aftermath pal on the mic to end any sort of competition between both ?

Actually, it's neither one nor the other. Both MCs just seem to have a good fun on the mic while murdering the crazy beat delivered by Rick Rubin. Impersonating characters, giving prank calls, making fun of fellow rappers all along the track, here's the song idea. Although it may (but shouldn't) disappoint people who wanted some legendary verses with explosive lyrics and supersonic speed, like a sort of 2013 hip-hop classic, this tune's still impressive in its own way. And it will definitely have every other rappers making a mess in their trousers when they'll see how high the step is to compete with both Em and Kendrick. Two weeks after recording the song, Kendrick gave hip-hop a new birth with his highly controversial verse on Big Sean's "Control" (the Los Angeles native proclaiming he's the king of New-York and inviting fellow rappers to elevate their game). And in October, Eminem delivered "Rap God", the song that closes the debate of who is the best rapper ever. Sorry people, but these two are on the upper scale of greatness, looking at you from the clouds with a 100 inch telescope.

Two generations of hip-hop delivering this fall's anthem, you can't do nothing about it, except dealing with the Aftermath.

Horseshoe G.A.N.G. - "MY LAST SONG"

West Coast rap collective Horseshoe G.A.N.G is back with a new hit song that may lead us to some new mixtape in the very next days. The song is closer to the earlier soulful Long Beach flow (where they're from) that artists like Nate Dogg or Warren G elevated to its best in the 90's, and the song's 5 minutes length is a great chilling moment thanks to Tabu's soft production and strings. And people who prefer the "hardcore gangsta rap" side of West Coast music can check what Horseshoe G.A.N.G. members' brother Crooked I's done with his band Slaughterhouse in the BET Cypher 2013 this week, it is worth the shot.

E-Dubble - "BACKSEAT"

Philadelphian rapper E-Dubble has gained a pretty good notoriety over the past few years, mainly thanks to his Soundcloud community. Although is not well-known yet, successful songs like "Big Ships" or "Cycle Of Nightmares" allow him to get more confident and hungry in his way to hugeness, but for now he keeps pairing with fellow producer Vini Vici for his new single "Backseat". The beat is like glue for your ears, and if humorous lyrics aren't something you usually ban from hip-hop, this song's gonna make your week, if not more...

Grand Theft Auto V dropped some new tracks exclusively for its amazing soundtrack (I swear, it's a goldmine), and this one will be your night-driving best friend !

Great Good Fine Ok - "YOU'RE THE ONE FOR ME"

You like Passion Pit and its glitchy pop sound ? Then you'll also like this feel-good first entry by G.G.F.O.

The Weeknd - "PROFESSIONAL"

As expected, The Weeknd's album is a masterpiece. So let's enjoy another track from Kiss Land, since we're invited to it.

Nelly ft. Florida Georgia Line - "WALK AWAY"

Mixing rap and country music ? Yeah, Nelly did, and actually it's not his first time. Remember that catchy tune "Over and over" he released back in 2004 with Tim McGraw ? It really seems that his Texan roots still have a true meaning for him.

So this time Nelly unites with Florida Georgia Line duo of country singers Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard to put that final Texan touch on his brand new album M.O. dropping newt week. Of course this song won't attract everyone in the game, especially hardcore rap fans (but actually those ones shouldn't even take a look at anything Nelly dropped recently though), and it'll probably never gather the success of previous Nelly/McGraw collaboration.
But still, I love this damn guitar, I love these claps, I love Nelly's velocity on it, so why would I ask for more ? Plus, Flo-Geo's hook tones exactly how it should on a song like this, dealing with heartbreak and stuff. So pick your boots, put your hat on, and ride along, people !

Justin Timberlake - "NOT A BAD THING"

With two albums released in the same year, it seems pretty clear that Jay Tee is back in the game. The sequel of his last effort, The 20/20 Experience Part. 2, drops next week, and as usual, the whole album leaked the Internet some days before the official release date. Boring, huh ? Kinda, but well, if we're invited to take a first look at J.T.'s new joints, why not actually ?

"Not a bad thing" is clearly the song that gave me the best uppercut. Since Bubba Sparxxx's single "Deliverance", we know good and well what Timbaland can do with a guitar and his undeniable producing talent. That mid-80's/beginning of the 90's riff will stick in your head for like weeks, I swear (check out "There she goes" by The La's to see what I mean), and it overall puts a shine on Justin's regular "talking about love" lyrics. One of the best songs the Timb duo gave us to date, and their chemistry allows us to hope for more in the next few years, which is clearly not a bad thing.

Summer was dope, but damn fall starts pretty well too !

Akon ft. Salaam Remi - "ONE IN THE CHAMBER"

The last few years were a little bit "Akonless", which, regarding to the amount of top singles he released between 2004 and 2008, can be comprehensive but also a bit long for the millions of fans he still has.
Does this new song mark one of the biggest comeback of the year ?

Anyway, this one sounds like a 90's western movie, in which we can easily imagine Antonio Banderas shooting "bandidos" to death in some Mexican place with no name and no law. The type of movie we all love, actually. But if Akon's virtuosity to sing over any type of beat isn't to be proved anymore, it's Salaam Remi's production that makes this song so irresistible. So let's just praise this underestimated DJ before we start playing Russian roulette over that damn beat !

Miguel - "CAN'T SLEEP TOGETHER"

As part of the Adult Swim Single Program, Miguel released a new hook-up recipe today. But if you thought it would be one of those regular R&B crooning stuff, you're wrong !

Pretty much similar to some Pharrell Williams' typical production beat, the instrumental of this song brings us into Miguel's late night activity with the same efficiency as The Neptunes leader. And with the born-in-L.A singer's deep vocals transcending that beat, you've got the perfect mix of what R&B future looks like. It seems like you neither won't sleep that much the next few days.

M.I.A. - "COME WALK WITH ME"

As her new album is scheduled for this fall, M.I.A. just released the first official single this week, and it acted like a bomb !

A few weeks ago, a snippet of the song leaked on the Internet, allowing us to listen to the first 90 seconds of her brand new single. A smooth pop ballad in the verve of her biggest success "Paper Planes", that would have easily been one of this fall's best songs. But we were far from the reality ! After that "sort-of" intro, the beat completely explodes in a "go shake your ass on the floor" way which is as unexpected as insanely great. The bass goes on fire, M.I.A.'s flow accelerates, and so far, you know the party is only beginning.
M.I.A., please never change !

The Weeknd - "TEARS IN THE RAIN"

Ok so the whole The Weeknd album just leaked yesterday, and to be honest I haven't taken a look at it yet. Well, I did with just one song actually, but what a song !

The wisely-titled track "Tears in the rain", a seven minutes ballad over one of the best beats I've heard this year so far, is close to my own definition of what a true masterpiece is. Abel's God-sent voice fits perfectly with the instrumental as with the intimate sadness that pours from his lyrics. The type of alchemy you don't find in every song, sadly...
If the whole album achieves this degree of greatness, it'll clearly be one of those cds you put money on it without any regret !

**Best songs of August 2013**

Summer always seems to be the perfect time to enjoy some great music : while you're heading to the beach, to the club, or during your every morning jogging with your chihuahua. Obviously, you're right. But it is only possible if our favorite artists keep creating some good stuff in the studio instead of having a holiday rest (which some of them really deserve, no doubt). As for 2013, let's check what happened !

Eminem - "BERZERK"

Here you have it ! A brand new Eminem single ! I know it looks like it's Christmas time four months too soon, but who's going to complain about it, honestly ?

So, on that graceful 27th of August 2013, something huge just came outta the high and mighty Internet. Something a lot of people were expecting for, but still impressive, as we're used to with Slim Shady. Let's take a look at his previous first singles : "My name is", "The real Slim Shady", "Without me", "Just lose it", "We made you". Eminem always brought some hype around his albums with funny and extravagant songs produced by him or Dre, with catchy tunes, hilarious though irrelevant lyrics, and choruses we still whistle years after.

But this time, he decided to come back with an 80's sound-like production from Rick Rubin, a nervous Beastie Boys flow, an LL Cool J style over some good ol' scratches, a hip-hop golden age tribute.
Why now ? Maybe to remind us what hip-hop truly is. In a year which brought us some modern electro stuffs like recent Kanye's album "Yeezus", with Rick Ross and 2 Chainz talking about their Versace clothes and Aston Martin cars, people like Eminem or Kendrick Lamar resist the invader. Not saying that Yeezy and Rozay suck (of course they don't), but we as music fans have to admit it : that's what true hip-hop needed. That's fresh air, and it's f***ing good !

Drake ft. Majid Jordan - "HOLD ON, WE'RE GOING HOME"

Drake chose the perfect time of the year to release his soulful new single from his next album "Nothing was the same", with a beat that reminds us of some classical Marvin Gaye work you could listen to while driving your own yacht around Bay Area. Ok, I know we aren't in Vice City, but if you listen to this tune over and over like I did the whole entire month (and you know you're going to rape that replay button), you'll think that any holiday place can be better than your office, and that any sunset is magical, especially with your lover next to you. Thank you Dreezy !

The Weeknd ft. Drake - "LIVE FOR"

According to some people, The Weeknd is the best thing that happened in music since Michael Jackson. Well, I won't go that far, 'cause MJ is the GOAT, and any comparison with him is always a pain in the ass for me, but there's one thing sure : I can't wait for his new album to be released. A couple of songs dropped this summer, and "Live for" is probably my favorite, as the combination between Abel Tesfaye's soulful voice, Drake's rapping ability and the tremendous depressing beat they ride along is exactly what any heart would need, broken or not. And the chorus will deeply resound in your ears over and over, believe me...
